Choose a Shopify agency in Dubai by checking five things: a fixed written price in AED, named people who will build your store, live stores you can open on a phone, Arabic and Tabby experience, and code and accounts that belong to you. Expect AED 4,950 for a launch store and AED 14,500 for a custom theme.
You have three quotes open in three tabs. One is AED 6,000, one is AED 38,000, one is a PDF with no number at all. All three promise a premium store in four weeks. This is how to tell which is real.
Start with what you are actually buying
A Shopify store is three separate jobs that agencies bundle: design (how it looks and sells), engineering (the theme, apps and integrations) and operations (payments, shipping, VAT, Arabic, migration). Most bad projects fail on the second and third, because the first is the only one visible in a pitch deck.
Before you speak to anyone, write down your catalogue size, whether you need Arabic, which payment methods your customers use, and whether you are moving from another platform. An agency that cannot quote against that brief is selling a template.
It also helps to decide who should own the project internally. Agencies move fast when one person can approve design, answer content questions and sign off payments. They stall when five people each hold a veto. Name your decision-maker before the first call, and tell every agency who it is.
Agency, freelancer or in-house
Each route is right for someone. A freelancer suits a simple catalogue and a tight budget, as long as you accept that one person is your design, build and support team. An in-house developer suits a business that ships changes every week. An agency suits a brand that needs design, engineering, Arabic and support from a team, with a fixed price and a handover.
The cost of a freelancer is rarely the invoice. It is the week they are unavailable before your campaign, or the store only they understand. Whichever route you pick, insist on the same ownership terms: the Shopify account, domain, theme code and designs belong to you.
The shortlist checklist
Use this to cut a list of ten agencies to three. Every line is something you can verify in a day.
- A fixed price in AED, in writing, with what is and is not included.
- Named people: who designs, who writes the code, who manages you. Not just a studio name.
- At least two live stores you can open on your own phone, not only screenshots.
- Arabic RTL, Tabby, Tamara and Apple Pay shown on a working store, not promised.
- You own the Shopify account, domain and code from the first payment.
- A written launch checklist and a post-launch support option with a price.
How to read a portfolio
Portfolios are marketing, so read them like a buyer. Open each store on your phone on mobile data, not office wifi. Add a product to the cart, open the cart drawer, start checkout. A store that feels slow, jumps around while loading or breaks at checkout will not improve under your brand.
| Look at | Good sign | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile product page | Sticky add-to-cart, readable text, images load in order | Layout jumps, tiny tap targets |
| Arabic version | True right-to-left layout, Arabic typography | English layout mirrored badly or machine-translated |
| Cart and checkout | Apple Pay, Tabby or Tamara visible, clear delivery cost | Surprise fees at the last step |
| Variety | Different layouts for different brands | Every store uses the same theme with a new logo |
| Case detail | Explains decisions and trade-offs | Only logos and adjectives |
Ask which pieces in a portfolio were built for clients and which are the agency's own design work, then judge both on the detail: speed on a phone, Arabic, and the checkout.
Questions to ask on the call
- Who exactly will build my store, and will they be on the project start to finish?
- What is in the fixed price, and what would make it change?
- Will you build a custom theme or customise a premium one, and why for my brand?
- How many apps will the store need, and what does each cost per month?
- How do you handle Arabic, VAT display and delivery across all seven emirates?
- If I leave after launch, who owns the theme code, the designs and the accounts?
- What happens in the first 30 days after launch, and is that included?
The best answer to question three is a reasoned one. A premium theme is the right call for many stores (see our comparison of custom versus premium themes). An agency that always recommends the most expensive option, or always the cheapest, is not listening.
What a good quote includes
A usable quote reads like a scope, not a slogan. It lists deliverables, timeline, payment milestones and the things that are not included. If you cannot tell from the document what you will receive on launch day, you will find out in week six.
- Design: pages and templates covered, number of revision rounds, who approves.
- Build: theme approach, sections you can edit yourself, mobile and Arabic.
- Set-up: payments, shipping zones, VAT, taxes, email notifications, analytics.
- Content: product import, redirects if migrating, who writes and who uploads.
- Launch: testing on real devices, a test order, launch-day support.
- Handover: training, documentation, ownership of all accounts and code.
Ask each agency to price the same one-page brief. The differences in what they include will tell you more than the headline number.
Price ranges you should expect
These are our own prices, shown so you can judge other quotes against a real reference. All exclude 5% VAT. For the full list see our pricing page.
| What you need | Our price (AED) | Typical timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Launch store on a refined theme, up to a standard catalogue | 4,950 | 3 to 4 weeks |
| Custom Shopify theme, Arabic and English, Tabby and Tamara | 14,500 | 6 to 8 weeks |
| Shopify Plus, headless or custom apps | 34,500+ | 10 to 16 weeks |
| Payment integration on its own | From 1,450 | Days |
| Care plan after launch | From 790 per month | Ongoing |
Payment terms are 50% to start and 50% at launch under AED 20,000, and 30/40/30 above that. Be wary of anyone who wants 100% upfront.
A quote far below these numbers usually means a template with your logo, no Arabic, no migration and no support. A quote far above them should come with a clear reason, such as a large catalogue, ERP integration or a fully custom storefront. Our full cost breakdown is in the guide to what a Shopify store costs in the UAE.
Red flags
- No price until after a second meeting, or a price that is a range with no scope behind it.
- Portfolio made of screenshots with no live links.
- Everything built on a premium theme, but quoted as custom work.
- The agency owns the Shopify account or hosting, so you cannot leave.
- A promise to rank you first on Google. Nobody can promise that.
- No mention of Arabic, VAT or cash on delivery for a UAE store.
- Heavy reliance on paid apps for things a theme can do natively.
Check the commercial facts
Platform pricing, payment provider fees and Shopify features change often, and an agency should be able to explain the current position. Your own contract is the one thing that must be exact.
✓ Shopify plan prices, transaction fees and feature availability in the UAE change, and Shopify bills in US dollars. Last checked October 2026. Confirm with Shopify before relying on it.
✓ Tabby, Tamara and gateway onboarding requirements and merchant fees are set by each provider. Last checked October 2026. Confirm with each provider before relying on it.
What a good project looks like week by week
Knowing the rhythm helps you spot an agency that is improvising. A launch store of 3 to 4 weeks, or a custom theme of 6 to 8, normally moves like this.
| Stage | What you should see | What we need from you |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1: brief and structure | Sitemap, page list, product and collection structure, a written scope | Catalogue file, brand assets, decision-maker named |
| Weeks 1 to 2: design | Home, collection, product page and cart designs on desktop and mobile | Feedback in one consolidated round, not ten messages |
| Weeks 2 to 4: build | A working staging store you can click through | Final copy, photography, delivery and returns policies |
| Final week: set-up and test | Payments, shipping zones, VAT, emails, analytics, a real test order | Gateway and Tabby or Tamara onboarding documents |
| Launch and first 30 days | Launch-day monitoring, a list of small fixes, training | Sign-off and a named person for urgent issues |
The most common cause of delay is not engineering. It is content arriving late: photography, product descriptions, Arabic copy and legal pages. An honest agency will tell you this on day one and put dates against it.
Support after launch
A store is not finished on launch day. Themes need small fixes, apps update, campaigns need new landing pages and Shopify changes its features. Ask what happens in month two. Our care plans start at AED 395 a month and cover updates, monitoring and a block of change hours, and you can cancel with notice. Whatever an agency offers, make sure the support price is written down before you sign, not invented after launch.
A simple way to decide
Score your final two or three agencies from one to five on price clarity, portfolio quality, Arabic and payments proof, ownership terms and how well they understood your brief. Add the scores, then talk to whoever scored second as well as first; the person you will work with matters as much as the studio.
Finally, trust your reading of the conversation. The agencies worth hiring ask about your customers, your margins and your catalogue before they talk about design. If the first call is all slides about their own awards, move on.
If your needs are a straightforward launch, start with our Shopify agency page. If your brand needs a bespoke storefront, read about custom Shopify theme development. Either way, ask for a fixed quote in writing before you commit.
Questions
For our work, AED 4,950 for a launch store, AED 14,500 for a custom theme and AED 34,500 or more for Shopify Plus, headless or custom apps, excluding 5% VAT. Other agencies vary, so compare what each quote includes rather than the headline figure.
A freelancer can suit a simple store with a tight budget. An agency makes more sense when you need design, engineering, Arabic and ongoing support from a team, so work does not stop when one person is unavailable.
Not legally, but local knowledge of Arabic, Tabby and Tamara, VAT, cash on delivery and emirate-level shipping saves time. Working in your time zone also makes approvals faster.
A launch store takes 3 to 4 weeks, a custom theme 6 to 8 weeks and Plus or custom work 10 to 16 weeks. Delays usually come from late content and approvals, not code.
